This is primarily a body sculpting procedure intended to reduce sagging, dimples, and wrinkles in your rear end. If you are looking to add volume to your backside, you might be a better candidate for buttock implants or the Brazilian butt lift.
Am I a Candidate for a Buttock Lift?
A buttock lift can help correct the following conditions:
- Loss of skin elasticity in the buttock region
- Sagging buttocks
- Dimpled, crinkled, or flabby thighs
- Asymmetrical or lumpy buttocks
Many of our patients also choose to undergo a tummy tuck or thigh lift at the same time as their buttock lift procedure. We will discuss all of these options with you at your initial consultation.
The Buttock Lift Procedure
Denver plastic surgeons Dr. John A. Grossman and Dr. Philippe A. Capraro will perform your buttock lift using general anesthesia. The surgery will be conducted on an in-patient basis at the Rose Ambulatory Surgical Center. You will spend at least one to two nights in the hospital.
The two major procedures for the buttocks are:
- Buttock implants
- Buttock augmentation with fat transfer (the Brazilian Butt Lift)
Both of these are performed under general anesthesia and require at least one overnight stay. In the implant technique, Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro make an incision between the “cheeks” of the buttocks in the area of the tailbone. Then spaces or pockets are developed within the buttock muscles into which an implant of ultra-soft silicone is inserted. The implants are secured and the incision is closed.
In the Brazilian Butt Lift, fat is harvested from every available locale. This fat is cleansed, prepared, and re-injected into both buttock cheeks, enlarging and shaping the buttocks.
Loose skin in the region will be tightened and reshaped, and excess skin and fatty deposits will be removed to provide you with a smoother, more sculpted buttocks appearance. Drains will be placed beneath your skin to remove excess fluid and facilitate the healing process.
In both the implant procedure and the Brazilian Butt Lift, you will not be able to sit or lie on your back for weeks to prevent injury.
Recovery and Follow-Up Care
You will need to wear a compression garment to help reduce swelling and assist in the tightening of your skin. Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro will provide you with detailed follow-up care instructions which must be carefully followed to ensure proper healing.
You may experience mild to moderate pain following your buttock lift surgery. Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro will provide you with pain medication to reduce your discomfort. The swelling and bruising should subside within one month, although it will take several months before you are completely healed. You should be able to return to work within two or three weeks, but you should avoid strenuous activity for about six weeks.
