The Buttock Implant Procedure
Denver plastic surgeons Dr. John A. Grossman and Dr. Philippe A. Capraro generally perform buttock implant surgery under general anesthesia. You should expect to spend at least one night at the hospital following your surgery.
An incision is made in the groove/crease between the buttocks. Your gluteus maximus muscle will be lifted, and a pocket will be created to hold the implant. A soft silicone implant is inserted into the pocket on each side of the buttocks. Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro will carefully examine the region to ensure the results are symmetrical and look natural. A compression bandage will be used to help reduce swelling and discomfort.
Recovery and Follow-Up Care
You will have to wear the compression garment for two to three days weeks following surgery. Once you return home, you must be able to manage around the house without sitting or lying on your rear for at least two weeks. At this time, you may begin sitting gently. It will be close to a month before you can sit and lie normally, and you may still experience some tenderness for several months.
A full regimen of activity, including athletics, can be resumed after the first month. Before this, walking and specific stretching will be your primary form of activity. While your results should be noticeable immediately, it may take up to six months before you do not feel the presence of the implants in your body.
