Grossman Plastic Surgery offers a variety of surgical techniques for your liposuction procedure. No two surgeries are performed alike. We customize your procedure to address your unique physical characteristics and aesthetic goals.
When the volume of liposuction is very small and/or only a few regions of your body are being treated, Denver plastic surgeons Dr. John A. Grossman and Dr. Philippe A. Capraro will generally recommend performing the procedure on an outpatient basis. However, for more extensive procedures, we may recommend that you stay overnight at one of our luxury suites.
Liposuction Techniques
All of our liposuction procedures are performed using a combination of two techniques:
- Tumescent liposuction (Suction Assisted Lipoplasty, SAL)
- VASER® LipoSelection®, a unique, low power ultrasonic technique
The VASER technique is used to disrupt the fat tissue to be removed, and then the traditional tumescent technique is used to remove the fat. Combining these procedures enables Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro to provide you with highly precise body sculpting results while maintaining the highest levels of safety.
Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro will first inject a tumescent fluid containing a combination of dilute local anesthetic and adrenalin into your fat. The adrenalin reduces bleeding and the local anesthetic delivers anesthesia directly to the treatment region. This fluid also serves to separate the fat to facilitate its removal. For more limited procedures under local anesthesia, a more concentrated form of this solution is used.
The VASER technique employs slender, solid metal probes attached to an ultrasonic wave generator that emits sonic energy. This energy emulsifies the fat cells, making them easier to suction away. This method results in less trauma, bleeding, bruising, and post-operative pain. It also creates skin shrinkage, which enhances the results. The VASER technique enables Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro to sculpt with a greater degree of finesse than is afforded by other techniques.
Several tiny incisions are made in the treatment region. Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro will insert skin protectors and treat the area with the VASER to liquefy the fat. Cannulas are then inserted and moved around the region to remove the liquefied fat until your desired contour is achieved.
Experienced Liposuction Surgeons
Dr. Grossman has a great deal of experience performing liposuction procedures. He first performed them shortly after they were introduced into the United States, and over the years, he has used and tested virtually every technique and device in order find the safest and most effective method to achieve his patients’ desired results.
Dr. Grossman also played a major role in introducing the VASER technique to the Denver area. After working extensively with Dr. William Cimino, the VASER inventor, Dr. Grossman concluded that VASER was the safest and most effective way to perform ultrasonic-assisted liposuction. Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro have refined and modified the technique so that it can be used to achieve results ranging from mild sculpting to maximum definition, which they refer to as the VASER® Max-Def/Maximum-Definition® technique.
