Determining the proper breast implant size to suit your unique body type requires skill, experience, and an artistic eye. There are many factors to be considered, and your surgeon must develop a close personal relationship with you in order to help you achieve a breast size that both looks natural and meets your cosmetic goals.
Denver breast implant surgeons Dr. John A. Grossman and Dr. Philippe A. Capraro have performed thousands of breast augmentation procedures. Through this experience, they have developed a flexible approach which helps create a customized breast augmentation based on your body type and desired outcome. To do the job right, no two breast augmentation procedures should ever be performed exactly alike.
The Implant Sizing Process
The breast implant sizing process begins at your initial consultation. Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro will use a variety of techniques, including sample implants, to help give you a better idea of what your new breasts may look like. However, we must stress that it is impossible to provide you with an exact model of your new breasts. Any visualization techniques employed are intended to help guide you in your sizing decision.
The ultimate cup size achieved is one of the most important and challenging aspects of breast augmentation. As a result, our surgeons spend a great deal of time with you in order to arrive at a general idea of your desired cup size and appearance. These options will be reviewed with you at your follow-up consultation, and again on the day of your surgery.
Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro will evaluate several factors when recommending the appropriate implant size for you, including:
- Your height, weight, chest, and breast dimensions
- The amount of breast tissue already present
- Skin elasticity
- Desired final cup size
- Your lifestyle and types of physical activity
Patients sometimes request to have the same size implants as a friend whose breast augmentation they admire. However, it is important to understand that the same implant size in two different women will produce different results.
The breast implant selection that our doctors make will depend on the cup size you ultimately desire.
Implant Type
There are two types of implants to choose from: silicone and saline. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, and our surgeons will recommend the appropriate option based on your goals for the procedure.
Saline implants have the ability to fill one implant more than the other in order to correct asymmetries present in your natural breasts. However, they are also more prone to rippling and do not feel as natural as silicone implants.
In general, Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro prefer to work with silicone breast implants for several reasons:
- They look and feel more natural
- They are more durable
- They maintain their shape better in the event of a rupture
- They minimize rippling fluid waviness
Both saline and silicone implants are available in round and teardrop shapes, and with smooth and textured shells. Our surgeons prefer round smooth implants because they produce a more natural looking result.
